Have you ever wondered why people exceed their budgets for parties and weddings??? After carefully selecting the venue, the décor, and then the photographer and entertainment, you finally decide on a menu. Oh, and then the beverages. So far you’re still within budget – THEN comes the alcohol! Suddenly the banquet order goes from $8,000 to $18,000+! What if you’re the host and you don’t even drink? After a quick reality check, you now have to decide how to host your elaborate event while serving alcohol and staying within budget.

There are a number of options available that can please both your guests and your wallet. Wine bars have become extremely popular within the last few years so hosting a wine bar is an excellent option. Another option is to host a champagne bar (with a low cost champagne) that can be served plain or with signature mimosa options.

There’s always the option of hosting a dry bar, meaning that you just totally omit the alcohol. Whatever option you choose, at the end of the day it’s your event and your wallet. As I share with my clients, there’s life after your event so while you want it to be fabulous you have to also be sensible.
So why does it matter? It matters because planning an event is nerve-wracking enough without the added stress of an expensive alcohol tab. Besides, you’ll be footing the bill and it’s unlikely that you’ll get to enjoy it. You’ll be too busy greeting your guests, taking photos and selfies, and trying to enjoy your event.

Consider the number of guests that will be attending and weigh the costs with different alcohol options. More importantly, set a budget and stick to it. You can find middle ground, still host a classy event, and please your guests and your bank account.
