In The Spotlight with Modern Trousseau

This week’s industry spotlight is on Modern Trousseau. This classy chic bridal gown boutique is woman owned and nestled right in the heart of Georgetown. Since Modern Trousseau’s launch in 2004, they have become a favorite among brides particularly because of their true “couture” gowns. The owner, Callie Tein, has emerged as a leader in the wedding gown industry, and has been features in several publications including Inside Weddings, People Magazine, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot, and Style Me Pretty.

I sat down with Kelly Ho-sang, Modern Trousseau’s Sales Manager, who gave me a closer glimpse of Modern Trousseau’s claim to fame. During my visit, I was surrounded by several gorgeous gowns and soon learned why this is an ideal place for brides to find a “one of a kind” gown for that special day.

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a potential bride shop at Modern Trousseau?

I like the intimate experience and the fun trying on dresses. There is no pressure and brides are just allowed to try on the dress of their dreams.

How did you get into the industry?

I actually uploaded my resume on Monster.com and took a chance. I enjoy the experience beyond the sale.

How long have you been in the industry?

I’ve been in the industry three months; however, I’ve been in retail for over 8 years.

How would you describe your working style?

I allow brides to feel as if they are walking into their closet. I’m here to assist based on what she likes that she tries on. I’m honest with brides but I know that when they cry that it’s “the dress”.

What’s unique that separates you from your competitors?

Modern Trousseau is a made to measure true couture bridal boutique. Our bridal dresses are made in America and can be customized to design the dress of choice. 50% of our brides want to be involved in the design process. We are a good mix of a local seamstress, local designer, and boutique. We can also turn around a dress within a week when necessary.

Also, we work with and can accommodate brides with religious restrictions that may require adding sleeves and illusion coverings

What do you love most about your job?

I love the client experience and helping the bride on the most important aspect of the wedding.

What’s one of the most unique requests that you have received from a client?

We received a request from a bride that requested a customized jumpsuit with an overskirt. The bride selected the top portion of one of our gowns and wanted tailored pants that would be covered by the wide overskirt. We are unique because we can accommodate brides who want to be part of the design process.

What services do you offer?

We offer consultations, wedding gown sales, and VIP appointments.

Based on your experience, how far in advance should bookings take place?

We recommend 6-12 months in advance.

What trends are you seeing with client requests?

Some of the trends we are seeing include plunging necklines, illusion sleeves, and slimmer silhouettes.

We concluded by visit with a walk thru of the boutique that features very personalized fitting areas, a very comfortable reception area, and jewelry options to add the perfect touch to the gown of your dreams. One stop stopping at its best!

Needless to say, I’m thrilled to welcome Modern Trousseau as one of Chiqúe Affairs’ partners.
